Chief Dan Kerr

Daniel J. Kerr was sworn in as the Chief of Police on August 14, 2023. He is responsible for the overall operation of the Jupiter Inlet Colony Police Department. 

Chief Kerr joins the Jupiter Inlet Colony Police Department with 51 Years of Law Enforcement experience. He began his career with the Cumberland Police Department in Cumberland, Maryland in 1970 as a Police Officer. Chief Kerr then joined the Fairfax County Police Department in Fairfax, Virginia in 1972 as a Patrol Officer. While at the Fairfax County Police Department, Chief Kerr advanced through the ranks and retired at the rank of Major of the Operations Support Bureau. 

Chief Kerr accepted the position of Chief of Police for the Town of Vienna Police Department in Vienna, Virginia in 1992. During his tenure, he implemented new policies, procedures and restructured the police department to meet the demands of a growing community. In 1997, Chief Kerr accepted the position of Chief of Police with the Winter Springs Police Department in Winter Springs, Florida. 

During his time at Winter Springs Police Department, Chief Kerr implemented a strong training program and a positive community policing philosophy with the implementation of technology, a K-9 Unit, Career Development Programs, a Traffic Unit, a Motor Squad, and a Bicycle Patrol. In his eleven years as Chief of the Winter Springs Police Department, Chief Kerr transformed the agency into a modern criminal justice agency.  

While at the Winter Springs Police Department, Chief Kerr became an Adjunct Instructor for the Seminole State College in Sanford, Florida, and was the Director of Public Safety from 2008-2009. 

In 2009, Chief Frank Kitzerow asked Chief Kerr to serve again, this time at the Jupiter Police Department. Chief Kerr joined as a Major and would once again rise through the ranks to be the Chief of Police. During his tenure, he mentored the command staff and supervised personnel.
